Center Advocates has been working to win concrete legislative improvements in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Wisconsin since 2001.
Whether its going door-to-door to talk to voters about equality through our Equality Knocks campaign, working with our large and active faith coalition of supportive ministers and rabbis, or mobilizing community members to contact their legislators, Center Advocates is committed to broad social justice and putting action first. We seek a day when LGBT people are full and equal members of every community.
What we've done
Co-founded the Fair Wisconsin campaign, the $5 million effort to defeat the ban on civil unions and marriage (the largest effort ever mounted in 26 states that have fought constitutional bans on marriage).
Dedicated organizing for LGBT equality in Milwaukee’s African American communities.
Helped City of Milwaukee workers win health care and other protections for the families of gay and lesbian employees.
Won passage of the 1999 Milwaukee Domestic Partner Registry, which same-sex couples can use to declare their commitment publicly, and participating area corporations can use to verify eligibility for domestic partner benefits.
